The process of Electro chlorination is simple. It is the electrolysis of salt water to produce a chlorinated solution. The electric current passes through the seawater (or brine). This disinfects the water and makes it safe for the operators of the chlorinators as there is no handling of chlorine gas, which is highly toxic and corrosive. A risk assessment is required as hydrogen released is flammable & explosive.

Brine is a solution of sodium chloride (NaCl) and water (H2O). The process of electrolysis involves using an electric current to bring about a chemical change and make new chemicals. The electrolysis of brine is a large-scale process used to manufacture chlorine from salt.
